Policy on Lab and Account Usage

Remember your account is provided for your use only. You may not, under any circumstances, lend it to anyone. Failure to follow the account rules may result in suspension of your account privileges and additional academic discipline procedures. The full department policy is available at:

You should also re-familiarize yourself with the department’s Acceptable Use Policy and Lab Guidelines. In addition, all members of the University community, including students, are bound by

University Policy SC14: Acceptable Use and Security of UBC Electronic Information and Systems

Although you are bound by all policies, you should pay particular attention to points 1.3, 1.4, 2.1 - 2.4, 3.1, and 5.1 - 5.6.

You should also be aware that even if you are using your own laptop many of the sections of this policy will apply to you when you are making use of the campus wireless and wired networks. In particular you are also bound by the BCNET Appropriate Use Policy. when accessing any off campus resources. The acronym ORAN used in the BCNET policies stands for Optical Regional Area Network, and is the network that UBC connects to for off-campus network connectivity.
